HOW FANTASY CAN CURE ILLNESS
It's childishness is a precursor to hidden meaning. Life shines when the apple falls, in the garden and we don't know the where and exact.. all there is the man, apple and a growling belly.
What is illness if not a desire to die, takes over the body. And what is fantasy if not the collective imagination, gathered through life experiences, coming to the rescue, in a due drops of meaning. And I do think, the child like nature of fantasy is one of the reason why it succeeds, where other genre's fail. Then, there was the rider, when the last shrine was about to bleed out, the morning with a new hope. As the dust gathered itself, when the sun poured in and over the white rider, cup was full again. Now, this was a very real scene from a movie. I am not going to tell you which one. But, Tolkien is an answer.
But, not always (around 24 minutes). See, he sort of missed the half where Sauraon was a floating thing. He needed a body, the evil is always embodied. Just like reality is always like a fractal, you don't experience the whole country the whole day, the whole of time you experience moments. And the white rider and the bleeding cup is to show, that. We don't have to be concerned about what's out there in another fair country, hell we haven't been there. We don't tell of things which are irrelevant, in time. I didn't live in the 1500 that's why I get bored in history class. But, tell me a story of a prince on the run, from the hunters of his family his line, his caliphate, and I am in(historically).
Which, is why Tolkien it seems to have missed evil. Or particularly sauron. And the likes of him, created the counter revolutionary novelists like George R.R. Martin. For whom, evil is so prevalent, that it often drowns their own point. I mean it is there, the bleeding cup, but so is the white rider. That's the point where either of them fall short. Tolkien would talk about the hero, the bright, and George would about the evil, and show it very well. (Red wedding). But, where is the union. The novel which does both of these well. Well, I am about to make a crazy claim. But, its in this. Dostoevsky. He did it. Both, life and hope, within the dispair of life.
And if one can harness the power of that dude, and do a retelling of crime and punishment in a fantasy setting that would be lovely. An example. Roscolnikov, thinks about the deed, he sees the axe he sees the lady, her troubles and how she behaves to keep the world, a hollow place to be. And then, he enters the apartment, the axe hits the head, and the rest is history.
Now, in a fantasy setting. (But, before we do that, let's talk about the obvious, the man could only see what was going on around him, no grand evil sauron, just a lady and her troubling presence, George does this well, too but his worldview makes it impossible to reconsider the events of any given scene, be given a positive light. Which I think is possible, see the hurt song, by nine inch nails, and then head towards the glorious rendition of the same lyrics by the green man. This is to show, that evil or dark can have it's place, but you don't have to stay there. In other words, the words of Aragorn
, there is always hope. So, the bleeding cup is real, that child did indeed lose his life, but in his defence his father was blind until the good lady came as a knight chased the horrers of the land, for a few moments, and then came the white rider piercing the sun).
Now, back to fantasy. It's power lies in the childishness with which it interacts with reality.its not a stick, it's the stick of truth. It's not an ocean, it's the place where Atlantis was born, and kept. In other words, fantasy is veiled reality. A form of existing which makes flirting with the world a bit easy, I mean your father can tell you all he wants to clean the room, busy yourself. But, when Spiderman says it, it hits different. It's the same message of responsibility, if you can hold the room together, in fractal, you will be able to hold the world together, and there would be no need to go full Roscolnikov.
(Maybe, the sneaky father would have placed a copy of Spider-Man, when the child went dreaming, and a wise old man, guiding him through the lost woods of the sugar babes, I am not explaining that. But, this would get the message across, uncle Ben said help one, and months went by the neighbors kid came over with his parents, the child saved the kid from the bullies, and the father goes upstairs the room is clean, almost if not for the comics, the page reads death in the family).
What else, that isn't being said? Fantasy helped me see the world, and be brave. Whether it was ash going from a nerdy little lose boy, to the badass we see in army of darkness, or Aragorn embracing the past, and ruling in the good future, or the man who carried good, like the female in clad armour, before the rider came, she took on the bleeding community helped them, see of the curse which made the people drink from the bleeding cup, and gave them hope. Maybe, we can do that too. Hail, Dostoevs.. or rather, the king of fantasy. Who ever wrote the stick is a sword, and Grail is a source of life giving essence. To them, and one. Hail..
